Ducting, chambers and optical fibre infrastructure

Canterbury Christ Church University
is expanding its campus facilities to the south of Canterbury city centre with the new Augustine House development

It is also acquiring buildings previously used by Canterbury College.

A highly resilient computer network infrastructure that joins all these locations together at very high speed had to be installed.

SCD was commissioned to install more than 2Km of new telecommunications grade ducting between all the locations. This work is through a very archeaologically sensitve area.

After installing the ducting, new singlemode optical fibre cable is to be installed, terminated and tested to the Universities strict criteria.

SCD led the negotiations with Kent County Council, Canterbury City Council, Canterbuty College, University of Creative Arts and Canterbury Archeaological Trust to enure the civil engineering was delivered in time for Augustine House to open on 1st August 2009.

The primary optical fibre link was commissioned on 30th July 2009. The resilient fibres will be handed over once Rutland House, one of the new acquisitions, has completed its renovation.
