Health & Safety

SCD is dedicated to sustaining a safe working environment, underpinned by our commitment to health and safety and the quality of our work. SCD empowers our employees to form a positive relationship with safety through the use of behavioral based safety training programmes and strives for continuous improvement.

Dealing with health and safety in this industry is a huge challenge. SCD believes that by empowering the employee, we will foster a culture of care and concern for others, eradicating our accident and injury rates on site. We employ a Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH), who is also a qualified Construction and Design Manager Co-ordinator (CDMC), to manage our health and safety practices, meaning we are at the forefront of industry developments.

Incorporating our innovative management systems into health and safety means we can obtain up the minute site and plant checks, and will be able to carry out and log tool box talk attendance, site audits and near miss reporting.

SCD carry out extensive training in-house, including HSG47 Avoiding Danger from Underground Services training, to ensure our employees are aware of the risks they undertake when they go to work each day. We believe that by training our employees in health and safety, it will breed a positive culture throughout the company.

We maintain strong links with wider industry accreditations and associations, such as the British Safety Council, Utility Strike Avoidance Group and CHAS..
